Freedom, A Fear..

“Man has his will, and his freedom. But most men, seeing the burden, prefer to hide behind authority, to be led like children.” ~Dostoevsky

Freedom is a responsibility that comes with the burden, the need to make choices, and the potential for suffering.  Dostoevsky suggested that people often shy away from this responsibility, preferring to be led or controlled by authority.

We are creatures of habit, clinging to the familiar even if it stifles us. The unknown terrifies us more than the suffering we know. Why? Is it because every step that we take carries the weight of uncertainty, and every new thing risks rejection or failure…

The Axiom of Cowardice

All is in a man’s hands and he lets it slip from cowardice, and that’s an axiom.” ~Fyodor Dostoevsky

We possess the power to change our lives, yet we surrender it out of fear. We rationalize our inaction, blaming fate or circumstance, when in truth, we are the architects of our own stagnation. This is not merely observation—it is an axiom, an undeniable truth. The tragedy is not that we lack opportunity, but that we lack the courage to seize it.

Breaking the Chains

The solution lies in conscious choice. To recognize that we choose our chains is the first step toward freedom. Every great act—love, creation, redemption—begins with overcoming fear.

Will we remain cowards, letting life slip through our fingers? Or will we take the new step, utter the new word, and discover what lies beyond the artificial terrors we have constructed?

The choice, as always, is in our hands.
